The New Audi S3 Joins the Hot Hatch Race!

The Audi renaissance is fully underway! If you are not aware, most of the German brand’s current line-up have or are currently going through their facelifts. From the compact A1 to the hulking Q7 each model has had a new lick of paint and styling changes. Following this trend, Audi have now released their sleeper special, the S3 Sportback and Saloon. Refreshed and ready to burn some tyre tread.

The New Audi S3 Joins the Hot Hatch Race!

Origins and background

The original S3 was released way back in 1999, 21 years ago. Apart from now being of legal age to buy itself a drink in the States, the S3 has undergone much change since its inception. This 4th generation S3 has been adapted to conform to its modern landscape. Let us roll off some of its potential competitors; Volkswagen Golf R, BMW M135i and M235i Gran Coupe, Honda Civic Type R and Mercedes A35. A nice crowd to be in, but how will Audi pull away from the pack? Spec time!

Performance and Styling

Audi claim that both the Sportback and Saloon will dash you from standstill to 60mph in just 4.8 seconds. This is bang on the money with its competitors such as the Merc A35 and BMW M135i claim to do the sprint in 4.7 and 4.8 seconds, respectively. Top speed for both Saloon and Sportback is limited to the standard 155 mph. You can thank a 2.0litre turbo four-pot engine for these figures, which kicks out 306 of the finest German horses and 295lb ft of torque.

The outside has been enhanced by the aforementioned Audi facelift. The S3 is subtly sportier looking than S-Line versions of the A3. The S-Line bodykit is upgraded with gloss black detailing on the ‘singleframe’ grille and air vents at the front, aluminium wing mirror housings, and a large rear diffuser with dual twin-exhaust pipes. The S3’s been dropped by 15mm over its regular A3 brother and gets S-specific suspension with a few modes. It also comes equipped with ventilated front and rear brake discs. Full LED headlights are standard, and 18-inch graphite grey wheels are found too – up to 19-inches as standard on the S3 Vorsprung edition.

Leasing offers are yet to drop on the new S3. Keep your eyes peeled for future offers on these.
